Macaron Taste Test: Pierre Hermé vs. Ladurée

When it comes to Parisian macarons, two names stand out: Pierre Hermé and Ladurée. Both are renowned for their exquisite, melt-in-your-mouth creations, but each has its unique approach to flavor and texture.

Pierre Hermé
Known for pushing the boundaries of traditional French patisserie, Pierre Hermé offers innovative macaron flavors that blend bold and unexpected ingredients. With combinations like Ispahan (rose, lychee, and raspberry) or Olive Oil and Vanilla, Pierre Hermé’s macarons are a sensory adventure. The texture is delicately crisp on the outside, with a soft, luxurious filling that delivers a more contemporary, adventurous experience.

Ladurée
A symbol of classic French elegance, Ladurée is the go-to for those who seek traditional flavors with impeccable craftsmanship. The macarons here are perfectly balanced, with flavors like salted caramel, pistachio, and raspberry standing the test of time. The shells are slightly thicker than those of Pierre Hermé, and the fillings are smooth and creamy, offering a more classic, refined macaron experience.

The Verdict
For those who love exploring bold new flavors, Pierre Hermé offers a modern twist on the macaron, while Ladurée remains the go-to for anyone who craves the timeless, refined taste of a traditional French macaron. Paris any Beyond Tours

Paris any Beyond Tours is one of the things I would highly recommend if you are traveling to Paris, especially with children. One thing that I took for granted is the thought that all tour guides can engage children and find ways to make history and culture fascinating. Well that assumption was incorrect. Our children absolutely enjoyed our tours with Ferit who thought of every detail to make art fun and history memorable. From going out of his way to bring hot chocolate on the car ride to Versailles, to bringing pads of paper for them to recreate their own Monet’s, Ferit made them fall in love with the Musee de Orsay and made Versailles so approachable and fun. The one day we left the hotel in charge of the guide, the children were so disappointed and we found the guide difficult to understand and not engaging with the children. After that experience our three kiddos were sure to let us know that “Ferit was their favorite tour guide of all time and that we were only going with him in the future!” I myself even texted him for more information about the Louvre as he has the most incredible details that go above and beyond simply describing what is in front of you. Be sure to ask him about the Winged Victory at the Louvre. Absolutely fascinating backstory that makes you on the edge of your seat craving more time to learn from him. I wholeheartedly cannot recommend Paris and Beyond more! The best experience that’s leaves us all excited to head back to Paris!
